SKAL Atlanta Executive Board Meeting
September 09, 2011
Conference Call
In Attendance
Lorene Sartan, President, Laura Heidt, Vice President, Shary Dyer, Treasurer, Burcin Turkkan, Assistant Secretary Treasurer, Catherine Tripplehorne, Clark Goodwin, Richard Tilley, Gail Evilsizor, Debbie Arett, Bob Cooke
Minutes from Last Meeting and Treasurer’s Report:
There was no meeting in August and no minutes to approve for August. Shary was to resend the last Treasurer’s report out to everyone (July, 2011) after this meeting. July was the Braves Game and Family night.
Old Business
Lorene will distribute the completed roles and responsibilities notebooks to everyone on the Board at the September meeting.
The Atlanta Website is complete and in Production (live), but still needs updates / tweaking. Only 15 members have updated their Profile information and there are very few pictures. Debbie is going to send Burcin some CDs and/or Bob with past photos of club events for an archive/slide show section that Sam will build into the website. Burcin will have her laptop at the next meeting to assist members in updating online their profiles and we will again send out and make reminders to everyone to update their information. New member pictures may need to be taken if Bob cannot get a converted file from his sister for the current member directory to provide to Burcin.
Kenny has committed to getting the Sign-up/Pay online going by next meeting. If it is not ready for the club to use by the October meeting, it was decided that we will seek an alternative. Bob will send out the regular eVite for the September 29th meeting, and the PayPal link will remain on the website presently as is.
The Golf Tournament only has 22 signed up with a commitment of 44, but Gail and Richard are hopeful that we will have a good turn-out for our annual Sal de Pace Golf Tournament. Thank you both for your hard work each year in organizing this event scheduled at the Dogwood Country Club September 22nd.
Debbie and Shary were both in attendance at the SI Congress recently and said it was a good event. We are hoping to get a larger turn-out for the Fellowship event at the Jekyll Island Club resort October 21-23rd. Debbie will try to arrange transportation. More information to follow: the flyer has already been distributed to the Atlanta membership.
Meeting venues have been posted through the end of the year on the website. Next meeting on September 29th will be at Petite Auberge at Toco Hills on Druid Hills Road.
Clark will contact Mike Hart to get the details of the scholarship recipients and who will be attending the awards ceremony at the September meeting. Catherine will try to get some press coverage or PR out of the event with her contacts since this is what SKAL is about – helping to further the travel/tourism industry and young people enter the field.
Catherine and Clark will be our September ‘Greeters’. Richard will be the FF collector (barrel) for those not wearing pins or name badges. The Miami club charges $5 for those not wearing pins/badges. Debbie suggested we reward everyone who has a pin or ID with one two-for one drawing ticket for free.
Burcin advised that we will publish our first Quarterly Atlanta SKAL Newsletter in October, so please get any news items into her. We also want to start highlighting one member a month on the website.
New Business
Shary and Debbie were working out the details of the Congress arrangements for Lorene who will provide a report upon returning. Martha McClintock advised there were three proposals which were sent out to everyone for review that may affect the clubs in Region IV and involve a re-districting and a slight increase in dues over the next two years.
Bob reported that we will have a new member to induct at the September meeting Wade Kilman and Alex Kowalczyk as #2 Young SKAL members. Both are students at GA Southern.
Membership drive will continue throughout the rest of the year. Perhaps another impromptu $10.00 wine and appetizer stand-up meeting similar to the Stoney River event may be in order to drive more membership this year. Lorene, Laura, Shary, Kenny, and Auditor to get together and come up with next year’s pricing for membership as it should go out in written invoice by end of October for next year.
Lorene suggested we use January to have a B2B Trade Show sponsored by Atlanta SKAL to drive awareness of SKAL in Atlanta, but Bob did not think such an event would garner much attention. Further discussion may be necessary to gain consensus or make plans for later in 2012. Burcin volunteered to build a contact database for our club with the names of Hotel Managers, etc. for future invite lists, etc., but she will need some help in getting the resources.
